The U visa provides legal protection for victims of certain crimes in the U.S. who have suffered abuse and assist law enforcement in investigating or prosecuting the crime. It also allows eligible family members to apply for protection.

Who Qualifies?

  • Victim of a qualifying crime (e.g., domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, felonious assault, kidnapping).
  • Suffered substantial physical or mental abuse from the crime.
  • Helpful, or likely to be helpful, to law enforcement in investigating or prosecuting the crime.
